Desoto Parish, LA (KSLA)- Louisiana State Troopers responded to the scene of a fatal crash in Desoto Parish early Saturday morning. It happened on LA 5, about 4 miles south of LA 789 Near Keachi.

Troopers blame drunk driving for the fatal crash that killed the female driver's husband and landed her in jail on a homicide charge.

According to State Police, 24-year old Kelly Boyett allegedly fell asleep at the wheel causing their car to cross the center line, leave the road and hit a tree and end up in a ditch which  caused the gas tank to become ruptured and inflamed with fire.

Oil field workers nearby stopped and rushed to the scene and were able to pull Kelly out safely.
