TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) – A vehicle apparently stolen by a convicted murderer was located in Texarkana, Texas this afternoon, and the murdered himself was captured hours later near a mall.
Rodney Lee Jones was being held in the Van Buren County Arkansas Jail when he escaped early Wednesday morning. Police say they spotted the truck around 1:45 Thursday morning parked on the side of an access road near St. Michael's Hospital, but did not know it was stolen.
Late this afternoon, police received a call from a passer-by saying he saw the truck on the news. Texarkana Texas Police then ran a vehicle check and it came back stolen. The truck was taken to local impound.
Jones himself was captured at the Central Mall in Texarkana, Texas, close to where his car was found.
He was taken into custody when he was spotted walking down Richmond Road in Texarkana just before 9 p.m.
Earlier this month Jones was convicted of killing his wife in 2008.
