Shreveport woman found dead identified; car found by police

UPDATE:  Shreveport Police have found the car belonging to a woman who was found dead inside of her home Wednesday night.

A tip from a citizen led police to the Centrum Apartments in the 2700 block of Waggoner. That's where they found 47 year-old Sherri Payton's white Pontiac Grand Am.

The car was last seen at her house around 7:25 a.m. the night of her death. There's no word on how it got to the new location.

Payton's death has been ruled a homicide, and Shreveport Police are still investigating.

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- The Shreveport woman found dead inside her Shreveport home Wednesday evening has been identified as Sherri Payton.

The Caddo Parish Coroner, Dr. Todd Thoma, confirmed to KSLA News 12 Thursday afternoon that authorities are "definitely working it as a homicide."

Shreveport police say a neighbor found Payton when he stopped by her home on Lynbrook Road to check on her. We're told the garage door was cracked when he got there, and then he went through the house and found her in the bathroom area.

Dr. Thoma says there were multiple traumatic injuries on Payton's body.

Her car was also missing when she was found. The 2001 white Pontiac Grand AM was last seen at her home around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening.

The car has Louisiana plates: SQY 282.
