Man in trouble for stealing a Mansfield church money

MANSFIELD, La. (AP) - A man who ran off with a northwestern Louisiana church's money before completing a construction project has been convicted of felony theft.

The Shreveport Times said a jury in Mansfield returned the verdict this week against 58-year-old James H. Shell. State District Judge Robert Burgess has set sentencing for Dec. 15.

Authorities said Shell took $39,000 paid to him in 2003 to construction a new fellowship hall for Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Keachi. Shell did less than $10,000 worth of work before disappearing. He was arrested in 2008.
