SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – A sea of navy blue filled Summer Grove Baptist Church as Shreveport police officers said goodbye to Sgt. Tim Prunty.
"Tim Prunty found his purpose in law enforcement, and he performed it well," said fellow officer, Moe Cunningham.
Prunty died when a man shot him in front of a convenience store while he was on duty early Sunday morning. While officers mourned what they called senseless violence that took his life, they also took comfort in knowing Prunty died doing what he loved- protecting and serving.
"Prunty was a great police officer. An officer to be admired by all other officers," said Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw.
The 43-year-old officer served as a member of the U.S. Navy, a Caddo Parish Sheriff's Deputy, and then gave 19 years to the Shreveport Police Force. Officers said he was a police officer's police officer who truly earned the 21 gun salute and full honors he was buried with.
