BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) – If you've got any used books lying around, there are some troops in need of something to read.
That's what the owner of The Thrifty Peanut learned from a customer who had recently returned from serving in Iraq.
He says he was shocked to learn they were short on decent reading material, so he's organized a book and media donation drive.
"Our goal is to get at least 5,000 items donated, and The Thrifty Peanut is going to match everything that is donated book for book, DVD for DVD, and then we're going to ship all the stuff over to Iraq from Barksdale Air Force Base," said Jason McLaughlin, The Thrifty Peanut Owner.
Jason McLaughlin says they have more than 3,000 books and DVDs so far.
They're hoping to have them ready to ship in time for Veteran's Day. Non-fiction is especially in demand. Racy romance books and bibles, they say they can't send, but devotionals are welcome.
