SPD officer killed in the line of duty remembered

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - On Monday, City of Shreveport Mayor, Cedric Glover ordered all of Shreveport's flags to fly at half staff in honor of fallen Shreveport Police Sgt. Timothy Prunty.

Fellow officers of Sgt. Prunty recall the Sgt. as being a 'great guy' and an even better officer, who 'loved his job.'

Monday, those officers honored Sgt. Prunty by wearing black and mourning bans across their badges.

Mayor Glover orders all city flags to remain at half staff until after Sgt. Prunty's funeral.

Sgt. Timothy C. Prunty was hired by the department in September of 1991 and had served faithfully since that time. He was a patrol supervisor in west Shreveport and was a superlative officer, colleague, and friend.

Shreveport Police Chief, Willie Shaw said, "The City of Shreveport and the Shreveport Police Department has suffered a tragic loss this morning with the murder of Sgt. Prunty. Tim was an excellent police officer and, more than that, he was a true friend to all that knew him. I am proud to have served with him and the police department will never forget his dedication and courage."
