SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - The suspect accused of killing Shreveport Police Sergeant Timothy Prunty remains behind bars Monday, but reportedly under suicide watch.
The suspect, 24-year-old Christopher Cope, police say is now being housed at the Caddo Correctional Center in Shreveport.
It has been confirmed that Cope is the son of retired Shreveport Police Officer, Carl Cope. Investigators say, Cope admits to detectives that he shot Sgt. Prunty, but the question remains Monday as to Why?
The shooting happened around 3:30am at the Circle K at Dean Road and W. Bert Kouns. Police say Cope reportedly drove up to the Circle K and began firing multiple shots off at Sgt. Prunty, wounding him multiple times.
Sgt. Prunty was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center where he was pronounced dead.
Cope faces a charge of 1st degree murder in connection to this case.
