Ark-La-Tex loses several citizens over weekend in fatal crashes

Ark-La-Tex, LA (KSLA) - It's been a deadly weekend for the Ark-La-Tex, after several of its citizens lost their lives in fatal crashes.

In Texarkana, Texas, a father was killed and his daughter was critically injured after being struck by a car. The couple was crossing McKnight Street after attending the football game between Liberty-Eylau and Pleasant Grove. Police is still investigating the accident.

In Bowie County, Texas, One man died on Saturday morning following a motorcycle car wreck that happened around 10:25 on Farm to Market Road 2516 in the Liberty Eylau area. Police have identified the man as Jimmie Goodson, 37, of Texarkana, Ark.

Police say the car was traveling west on 2516 and the motorcycle was following behind. The driver of the car attempted to make a left turn into a church driveway and at the same time the motorcycle was attempting to pass striking the car in the side.

Ironically, police say the driver of the car was on her way to a funeral of someone killed in a motorcycle accident. The wreck is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

In North Caddo Parish, Sheriff Deputies responded to fiery one car crash that happened around 4:45 near Browning road in Vivian. Deputies on the scene concluded that an SUV was traveling west on Upper Stateline road when it left the roadway colliding into a tree.  The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames and Caddo Fire District 8 was on scene extinguishing the fire when deputies arrived.  The Caddo Sheriff's Crash Unit was called and is currently investigating the accident. The female victim inside the car was pronounced dead at the scene by the Caddo Parish Coroner's office which responded and transported body for an autopsy. The female victim has not been identified yet.

In Red River Parish, around 4:35 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop G responded to a two vehicle crash on LA 1, two miles south of Grand Bayou. The crash claimed the life of a 30-year-old man from Oklahoma.

According to investigating troopers, 30-year-old Donald Dale Moss II of Pryor, Oklahoma, was traveling south on LA 1 in a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck when his vehicle, for unknown reasons, crossed the centerline into the path of a 1996 Western Star tractor trailer traveling north. The tractor trailer operated by 31-year-old Sherman Jerome Calhoun of Coushatta, and the Dodge truck both collided head on within the northbound lane of travel.

After impact, the tractor trailer, which was carrying a load of logs at the time of the collision, veered off the right side of the road, overturned and lost its' load. The Dodge truck spun around and came to rest within the roadway obstructing both lanes of travel.

Mr. Moss, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Red River Parish Coroner. Mr. Calhoun, who was restrained at the time of the crash, sustained minor injuries.

Impairment is not suspected to be a factor, but routine toxicology test results are still pending and the crash remains under investigation.

In Sabine Parish, Louisiana State Troopers were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle rollover accident around 2:15 Saturday morning. The accident happened near LA Hwy 1215 at the Aimwell Bridge. Police say the driver was killed in the crash and his passenger was injured.

According to State Police, Matthew T. Rivers, 23, of Zwolle, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup, going east bound on LA Hwy 1215 when he lost control and exited the right side of the roadway. After exiting the roadway, the vehicle collided with a bridge guardrail.  His passenger suffered moderate injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
