The Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education is considering plans to change the LEAP Acceleration program.
If a fourth grade student fails the test twice, they can take the program which would prepare them to retake the test, while learning fifth grade material.
Last year in Caddo Parish 38 students advanced to the sixth grade after successfully taking the test and the year before 35 advanced.
The BESE board says there is concern some of those students will end up doing poorly later.
Yet in Caddo Parish, testing administrators say they have measures in place to make sure the students know the material before moving on.
Many parishes in Louisiana do not make students take the fifth grade IOWA test, which means they might not know all the material before moving on.
Bossier Parish does not offer the acceleration program.
