LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A Pulaski County jury has awarded $20 million to a couple after finding a hospital was negligent for a surgical procedure that was done incorrectly on their son's brain.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the panel delivered its verdict in just under two hours Friday in favor of Kenny and Pam Metheny, who sued Arkansas Children's Hospital on behalf of their son, Cody.
According to court records, Cody Metheny underwent a procedure in 2004 to remove faulty brain tissue believed to be the source of a seizure disorder. During the operation, the surgeon removed matter from the wrong side of Cody's brain before operating on the correct side.
The hospital said in a statement it regrets what happened.
