SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- An eighth grader at Caddo Middle Career and Technology School, in Shreveport, claims she was assaulted by a gym teacher.

Dominique Foster tells KSLA News 12 that the Eric Strogen got physical with her after she says she defended herself and a group of classmates when the teacher allegedly cursed at them. The incident stemmed from another girl tripping a male student while the boys ran laps in the gym.

"The coach came over there yelling at us, cussing at us, saying 'keep your M-f'ing feet to yourself,' and I stood up and I told him 'don't cuss at me, I'm not your child,'" Foster says.

The 13-year old says that's when things got physical.

"He was like 'Oh, you wanna be grown, huh,' and then pushed me down. I pushed him back, and that's when he choked me, and slammed me on the floor, and put his knee in my chest."

"Nothing she could have said, in my eyes, would have justified him handling her the way he handled her," says her mother, Sheira Foster.

Dominique spent the rest of the day in in school suspension. Her mother, took her to the doctor, and they tell us the doctor says she has bruises and contusions.

"After the push, he could have stopped. After the choke, he could have stopped. But he went on to put her on the floor. I don't know what his mind was thinking. I don't know what he had going on, but that was my child on that floor," Sheira Foster says.

Caddo schools responded rather quickly.

"This teacher has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of our investigation...We will take necessary personnel action, if that should be determined to be necessary," explains Public Information Officer Tricia Grayson.

The Fosters have pressed charges on Strogen. He's been arrested and charged with misdemeanor battery. That charge carries a penalty of up to six months in jail, and up to a $1,000 fine.

At this stage, these are merely allegations, not corroborated to KSLA News 12 by any witnesses. Caddo schools' decision to put Eric Strogen on leave is standard operating procedure when a complaint like this is filed. We are advised that it does not constitute any finding of wrongdoing.
