SHREVEPORT, La (KSLA)- Most people in the Ark-La-Tex still don't eat vegetables often enough, and fruit consumption is actually dropping a little, according to a new government report released Thursday. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that last year about one-third of U.S. adults consumed fruit or fruit juice at least twice a day. That's down slightly from more than 34 percent in 2000.
KSLA News 12 spoke to a local produce vendor who says he's eaten vegetables all his life. He gave us this recipe to help sneak veggies into unhealthy diets.
Ray Lemoine's Famous Creole Chicken
- 1 whole chicken
- one clove of garlic
- 1/3 stick of butter
- 1/2 cup bell peppers
- 1/2 cup celery
- 1/2 cup green onion
Cut, skin, and wash the chicken. Put the chicken in a two quart pot with salt and pepper to taste. Add the garlic, bell pepper, celery, green onion, and butter to the pot. Simmer for 45 minutes.
