AR authorities identify deceased inmate that attempted jail break

TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) - Authorities in Texarkana, Arkansas released the name of an inmate who died after attempting to escape and Ark-La-Tex jail.

He's 30-year-old Anthony Lewis was pronounced dead at a Little Rock hospital Monday night after he fell four stories from the facility.

Lewis was awaiting sentencing for back robbery by force of violence. He was from Springhill, Louisiana. 

Lewis, according to authorities tried escaping from roof of the Bi-State Justice Center in Texarkana by using ripped clothing as a rope.He, reportedly scaled the razor wire fence surrounding the roof when and fell more than 70 feet to the ground below.

Officials say that there was a correctional officer in the area at the time of the alleged escape attempt, but investigators are still working to figure out what exactly happened.
