Police officer accused in rape of Nicholls student

THIBODAUX, LA(AP) - A Thibodaux police officer has been arrested in the alleged rape of a 22-year-old Nicholls State University student.

The Daily Comet reports 35-year-old Corey Morris was arrested Friday and booked with simple rape.

Nicholls State University Police Sgt. Michael Richard says Morris, who was on-duty and in uniform, allegedly raped the intoxicated student after giving her a ride home from a downtown Thibodaux bar in his patrol car.

Thibodaux Police Chief Craig Melancon said Morris has been suspended without pay.

Morris was released from jail Saturday after posting a $50,000 bond.

It was not immediately known whether Morris has an attorney.
