Rummage sale to benefit local Arkansas flood families

Shreveport, LA(KSLA)- The two families devastated by the Albert Pike Campground disaster in Arkansas this summer are getting more local help this weekend.

Both the Basinger and the Smith families of Shreveport lost a father and two children when high flood waters rushed through the Albert Pike Campground on June 11th.

Friends of the families have helped set-up a major rummage sale for Saturday morning to benefit those two families. They have called it "The Rummage Sale for Hope."

Organizers say donations have poured in, in recent days, from pre-schools, businesses and the general public and items for sale range from kids clothing to electronics.

The organizers hope to raise more than five thousand dollars for the Basinger and Smith families.

"I brought in the rummage sale for hope, I just wanted to do something for the family," said rummage sale organizer Christy Edmunds.

The rummage sale will kick off on Saturday morning from 7am-2pm at 1325 Captain Shreve Drive across from the library next to Hilburn Printing.
