Major explosion in Webster Parish

SHONGALOO, LA (KSLA) – There was a major explosion and fire Tuesday morning in Webster Parish near Shongaloo at a Natural Gas Compression Station.

An employee with DCP (Duke Energy), the company where the compression station was located,Heath Warford, was life-flighted to a Shreveport hospital with serious burns.

The explosion happened around 3:30 Tuesday morning, northwest of Shongaloo on Highway 157 near Walker road and Mulberry Lane.

Neighbors in the area told the Webster Parish Sheriff's that they heard a loud explosion and then shortly after authorities arrived.

Fewer than a dozen homes surround the area where the station is located, with only one of those homes in very close proximity to the station.

The Webster Parish Sheriff's office is limiting access to the area because of an active leak. DCP Midstream Energy is actively working to deplete pressure to the compressor station through a relief valve.
