SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – The man accused of killing his estranged wife and her sister is leaving the hospital and heading to jail.
The DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office says Stephen Rivers will go from LSU Hospital to the DeSoto Parish Jail. Rivers is the prime suspect in the August 8th deaths of his estranged wife 25-year-old Diana Rivers and Diana's sister, 24-year-old Jenny Knight.
Preliminary autopsy results on the victims indicate they both died from stab wounds.
With the help of the Bossier City Marshal's Office, DeSoto Parish authorities got a warrant and retrieved text messages sent to Diana Rivers' cell phone from Stephen Rivers. The messages were received the day before she was murdered.
Detectives say they've talked to Diana's and Jenny's children, who were inside the home the night of the stabbings. According to authorities, Diana's five-year-old son identified Stephen as the person who killed Diana. The boy was asleep in bed with his mother when the attack happened.
All of the children are currently staying with other family members.
Stephen Rivers was the subject of an intense manhunt on Sunday after the bodies were discovered. After he was found, he was taken to LSU Hospital for treatment of what authorities call self-inflicted stab wounds.
