SHREVEPORT, La. - Even before he took the hill last Monday, Shreveport-Bossier Captains lefty pitcher Ryan DiPietro found out that he was going to be an injury replacement for Tuesday's American Association All-Star Game. Then he went out and made that decision look smart, with a complete game victory at Pensacola on July 19 and a seven-inning solid performance against Grand Prairie on Saturday to get his second win of the week.
Now, DiPietro's efforts have earned him another accolade - he is the American Association Pitcher of the Week, as selected by Pointstreak, the league's official statistician.
The Berlin, Conn., native avenged his only loss of the season by dominating the Pelicans on July 19, allowing five hits and only one first-inning run, with a walk and four strikeouts. He struck out seven, one off a season-high, in his win against the AirHogs at home, once again issuing just one walk while allowing two runs.
On the season, DiPietro is 7-1 with a 3.82 ERA, with 49 strikeouts and 14 walks in 61 1/3 innings.
