Influx of cats at Ark-La-Tex Shelter

TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) – A spike in homeless animals means more euthanizations than usual. The Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center is seeing a large amount of cats, specifically kittens.

We're told the increase is typical for this time of year and is often called "Mount Kitten," because of the number of cats coming in.

"The major intake that goes up in the summer is kittens," says Donna Yeldel, Director. "We're just overwhelmed with kittens on a daily basis. It's not unusual for 20 or 30 kittens a day to be surrendered to the shelter."

If you would like to adopt a cat at the shelter call (870) 773-6383.

The shelter is located at 203 Harrison Street in Texarkana, Arkansas.
