Sewage leaking into Champion Lake

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – After a power outage on Saturday July 10th, a hydraulic surge in the line caused a major break  in the force near Champion Lake. Now thousands of gallons of sewage are continuing to pour into the lake.

The sewage leak began Monday morning and crews have been working overnight to repair the leak. The sewer is flowing into the lake at a rate of about 2,000 gallons per minute.

The state DEQ has been notified and the City will monitor the water quality in the lake until testing can confirm water quality is back to normal. Questions may be referred to the City's Department of Operational Services at 318-673-7660.

KSLA News 12's Denise Middleton is live on the scene at Champion Lake reporting the progress of the crews to seal the leak so tune-in to KSLA News 12 This Morning for continual updates.
