Shreveport Police officer dragged; suspect still on the loose

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – Police are searching for a man who allegedly dragged a police officer with his car. According to police, the incident happened around 3 o'clock Thursday morning.

Officer Jimmie Minor says he stopped a vehicle because of an expired license plate.

Minor says when the driver failed to show I.D., and claimed to be driving a friend's car, he asked him to step out of the vehicle. Then, the driver claimed to have car trouble and had to turn the car back on.

When he did this, Minor says he accelerated, dragging the officer along the side of the car.

Even though it was scary, Minor said, his training prepared him.

"My training helped me and my instincts just kind of let me make that decision," says Minor.

The investigation is on-going and police are looking into some leads on who the driver was. Minor says the license plate matched the car, which is a good start to the investigation.

Shreveport Police say the man is 6-feet tall with facial hair and appeared to be in his 40's.

He drove away in a black or dark gray 1991 Volvo. The car had Texas tags, and the license plate number is HHT-469.

If you have any information that could help with the investigation, call Crimestoppers at (318) 673-7373.
