SHREVEPORT, La. - The first week of June was a good one for Shreveport-Bossier Captains right handed pitcher Osvaldo Rodriguez. On June 4, Rodriguez shut out the St. Paul Saints at Fair Grounds Field, allowing just three hits, with two walks and eight strikeouts. For his efforts, he was named the Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week to start the month. Four largely impressive starts later, Rodriguez has earned the Teamline Direct American Association pitcher of the month, as selected by the league's statistician, Pointstreak.
After the gem against the Saints, Rodriguez beat Sioux City on the road on July 9, started a combined shutout against Fort Worth on June 15, and helped the Captains complete a sweep of the second-place Grand Prairie AirHogs on June 20. Although he actually struggled in his last start against El Paso, getting a no-decision, Rodriguez finished the month 4-0, with a 2.46 ERA in five starts. In 33 June innings, Rodriguez allowed 24 hits, 15 walks and only nine runs, with 36 strikeouts and an opponent's average of .203.
On the season, the Dominican native is 8-0 with a 3.07 ERA in nine starts. He is sixth in the league in ERA, third in strikeouts, and no one has more than his eight wins.
