TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) - The Texarkana, Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross has stepped into action in preparations for Hurricane Alex to make landfall.
The expected Category 1 Hurricane is expected to touchdown in portions of South Texas sometime Thursday.
Texarkana, Arkansas Red Cross officials dispatched its Emergency Relief Vehicle Wednesday afternoon to help with potential evacuations.
The Chapter's Disaster Coordinator, Jim Whiteside says they are expecting to receive orders after the storm passes through the Brownsville, Harlinger areas.
Texarkana's truck is equipped to serve up to 300 meals when fully loaded.
As of Noon Wednesday, at least 70 residents had already been taken to a Brownsville High School for shelter.
