SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) –The 4th of July means, food, family, and fireworks. For the Williams family, all those colors in the sky mean a lot of green.
"This year's sales are pretty brisk," said John Williams.
They've operated a fireworks stand for the past 11 years. It's always a money maker, but they expect sales to be higher than normal this year.
"The 4th being on a Sunday, and the Monday being the legal holiday for the 4th, we're expecting a real good season," said Williams.
They hope to sell between $25,000 and $35,000 worth of fireworks, and they say the most popular sellers are the ariel multi-shot fireworks.
This year 16-year-old Hanna, John's daughter, will get the money made from the stand. She's spent the last week getting ready.
"First we had to unload all the boxes and bring them here from the warehouse and unload them. Then, pull everything out of the boxes and do inventory and make sure the amount of stock is right," said Hanna.
She says it can be difficult for kids her age to find jobs, but this will help her pay off the car she just bought.
"Doing this stand would probably make as much as if not more than having a part time job throughout the year," said Hanna.
She says her favorite part of the 4th is that chance to make a profit.
