ULM student crowned Miss Louisiana 2010

Monroe, LA(KSLA)- The University of Monroe in Louisiana has captured yet another Miss Louisiana title. In a history making moment for the University of Louisiana at Monroe, ULM sophomore Kelsi Crain was crowned Miss Louisiana 2010 by Miss Louisiana 2009 Katherine Putnam, a ULM senior, at the Monroe Civic Center Saturday night.

Kelsi Crain, a nineteen-year-old Monroe native is a sophomore kinesiology major at ULM. She performed a captivating Dance en Point for a packed house and was a preliminary fitness winner Thursday night. She was named "People's Choice" in a record-breaking Internet voting competition Saturday night.

After being crowned, she said, "I feel so humbled and so excited to be standing here tonight."
She competed on the platform "Heart for the Arts" and said she hoped to raise awareness of the positive impact art makes in the lives of young people, as well as its intrinsic value in improving academics.
Miss Dixie Gem Peach Lauren Abshier, 22, a preliminary fitness winner Friday night, was named first runner-up. Miss Monroe Hope Anderson, also a ULM student, was named second runner-up and won the Academic Award.
