LSU's Gibbs Named to NCBWA Second Team All-America Squad

BATON ROUGE, La. – LSU junior catcher Micah Gibbs has been named to the 2010 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association second-team all-America squad.

Gibbs, a product of Pflugerville, Texas, was a 2010 first-team all-SEC selection by the league coaches, and he was voted to the all-SEC Defensive Team for the second straight year.  He was LSU's leading hitter this season, batting .388 with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 homers and 60 RBI.

Gibbs was selected in the third round of the MLB Draft last week by the Chicago Cubs. In three seasons at LSU, he has a .336 career batting average in 187 games (177 starts) with 46 doubles, five triples, 18 homers, 137 RBI and 11 stolen bases.

He was named to the 2009 American Baseball Coaches Association Gold Glove Team, and he was the starting catcher for the 2008 U.S. National Team that won the gold medal at the World Championships in the Czech Republic.

A 2009 member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Gibbs is majoring in sports administration at LSU.
