Major I-20 accident causes multiple crashes. Traffic diverted

Dixie Inn, LA (KSLA)-  Louisiana State Troopers and Webster Parish Police are both on the scene of two major accidents that happened along the stretch of I-20 Eastbound lanes. The first accident happened at approximately 5:30 PM. According to Webster Parish Sheriff's Department, an 18-wheeler box truck carrying a load of paper somehow overturned on I-20 at the Dixie Inn, at US 371 North Exit 44, blocking both eastbound lanes of interstate traffic.

Webster Parish Police and the LA State Police are still working that accident and traffic at exit 44 is being diverted Hwy 80.

Shortly after the first accident, another 18- wheeler was involved in an accident that caused a pile up with an unconfirmed amount of vehicles.  This time, the accident caused a bigger mess because of a large amount of diesel that was reportedly leaking onto the interstate. There were no major injuries reported with the accidents.

The second rig began leaking large amounts of diesel fuel which further clogged oncoming eastbound traffic.  State Police Hazmat officials arrived on scene along with representatives from the Department of Transportation Development (DOTD) to address the hazardous materials spill, reportedly near 140 gallons, while Webster deputies are diverting traffic.

The I-20 eastbound lanes remain closed at Exit 44, and travelers are being rerouted to US Hwy. 80 through Dixie Inn and Minden, and then back to I-20.  Authorities speculate that the interstate could remain closed at this exit until near midnight tonight.
