SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – On Tuesday night, a simple traffic stop turned into a high-speed chase in Shreveport.
Around 9:30 p.m., police tried to stop a Chevrolet Blazer for a traffic violation on Union Avenue and West 62nd Street, but the driver refused to stop.
That's when the police chase started, at times, up to 100 miles per hour.
The driver hit multiple cars during the chase and eventually jumped out and ran.
He was caught moments later by a K-9 officer.
Melvin Ashley faces multiple charges, including aggravated flight, attempted first degree murder, wreckless operation of a vehicle, resisting an officer with force, and three counts of hit and run.
And we're told a driver of one of the vehicles that was hit during the chase, also made a run for it, but was eventually captured
Shreveport Police say he had illegal contraband on him, so they arrested him as well.
His identity has not been released.
