KSLA News 12 Fred Childers wins journalism award

Baton Rouge, LA (KSLA) - KSLA News 12's very own Fred Childers has been named "Reporter of the Year" by the Louisiana Broadcaster's Association. He received his prestigious award on Saturday at the Associated Press Awards Luncheon in Baton Rouge.

"Being named reporter of the year for 2009 is an honor and I hope to continue to live up to the standards that brought me this far," said reporter Fred Childers.

Fred Childers has been with KSLA News 12 for more than 6 years and has more than twelve years of experience in broadcast journalism. He has reported on everything from crime to politics, to hurricanes. Fred spent thirteen days in South Louisiana covering Hurricane Katrina, and the aftermath, doing live reports for stations all across the country.

Fred once took 2nd place in the AP Awards for Hurricane Katrina coverage. Fred Graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas.
