Fish fry benefits Ark-La-Tex teen in need of critical medical care

Ark-La-Tex (KSLA) - The family, friends and even strangers have all banded together to help a local teen in need of critical medical treatment.

Nineteen year-old Zach Jackson was severely injured during a car accident in 2009. As a result, he sustained a severe brain injury that left him unable to walk, talk or even swallow and  currently living in a nursing home. A fish fry with raffle tickets and live music was held on Saturday to benefit the teen who will head to New Orleans on Monday to undergo more treatments to improve his recovery.

"A lot of money we're raising is going to his medical bills," said Dana Johnston, Zach's mother.

Zach will be getting hyperbaric oxygen treatments that his mother hopes would help her son turn around some and make a full circle recovery.

Independence Regain, a non-profit organization, is currently being created to build a brain and spinal injury center in the Shreveport-Bossier area. Zach's mother is planning to raise money for that effort next year to help keep other families from having to travel to other states for treatment.
