Second Baton Rouge prison escapee captured

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Authorities have captured the second of two prisoners who escaped from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office says 23-year-old Jeremy Ricard was caught Saturday in Hammond about four hours after he was spotted in a vehicle reported stolen in Lafayette.

Ricard and another inmate - 26-year-old Leonard Thomas - escaped Tuesday by jumping over a razor-wire fence. The sheriff's office says Thomas was captured late Thursday in a car belonging to a Baton Rouge man who had been found shot to death in an apartment complex laundry earlier in the day.

That car crashed in Port Allen after being chased by a West Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy. Authorities say that while Thomas was captured, another man fled into a wooded area and escaped.
