Webster Parish deputy arrested for sexual battery

MINDEN, La. (AP) - A 64-year-old Webster Parish sheriff's lieutenant has been arrested, accused of sexual battery on a juvenile.

Authorities say Robert Booth was booked as a fugitive from Nueces County, Texas, into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center about 1 p.m. Friday, just hours after Texas officials confirmed he was wanted there on two counts of aggravated sexual assault with a child and one count of indecency with a child-sexual contact.

Booth had been scheduled to turn himself in this week but didn't. The sheriff's office says Booth was found at a home in Webster Parish on Friday and he surrendered without incident.

Sheriff's Maj. Steve Cropper says deputies are finalizing extradition papers and expect Booth, of Sibley, to be delivered to Texas authorities later Friday. Sheriff Gary Sexton says Booth has been suspended without pay.
