Hundreds gather for fallen local soldier visitation

Minden, LA (KSLA)- More than 200 friends and family showed up for a visitation service honoring a fallen local soldier. Twenty four year-old Sgt. Joshua Tomlinson was killed last week with four other U.S. troops from a suicide car bomb in Kabul, Afghanistan.

The visitation took place on Friday from 5 PM till 8 PM at Rose Neath Funeral Home in Minden, LA.

Word came out this week that members of Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church are expected to show up at Tomlinson's funeral on Saturday. The anti-government group has already sent out a news release alerting local authorities of their plans to be present and shout out their antigovernment sentiments.

A statement on the news release read "God hates America and is killing our troops in His wrath."

Tomlinson's family encouraged those who would like to show their support to show up with flags. Other groups are expected to show up and counter-protest.

"I don't want nothing bad to happen. I don't want to see anybody get hurt or anything, you know.  I just want it to be peaceful" said David Kendall, Tomlison's first cousin.
