RAGLEY, LA (KPLC) – Beauregard Parish Sheriff's deputies say a house fire has claimed the lives of four children. Fire departments were called to an address off Felice Cut off road around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Deputies say a mother and her 3-year-old child were sleeping at the time, but were able to get out of the burning house. Four other children, who were also sleeping, died from smoke inhalation. The children who died included twin 11-year-old girls. The others were ages 8 and 1.
The mother suffered second degree burns while trying to save her children. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies say the father was working in Texas at the time of the blaze.
No names have been released.
An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire. KPLC's Theresa Schmidt is at the scene. We'll have further updates later today on 7News and here at kplctv.com.
