Fatal crash claims life of 2 y.o.

RED RIVER PARISH, LA (KSLA)– A fatal Crash in Red River Parish claimed the life of a two year-old early Monday morning.

We're told that a 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier was southbound on US 371, when it ran off the roadway and drove through a drainage ditch. When the car was in the ditch, it struck several tree roots and went up over 100 feet in the air.

The car then landed in the northbound lane of US 371.

Officials believe sometime after the car hit the tree roots in the ditch, all three passengers were ejected through the back windshield.

The driver and passengers were not wearing a seat belt.

The driver and a female child were transported to LSUHSC moderate injuries.

The third passenger, a male child, was transported by Life Air to LSUHSC with critical injuries.

The child was later pronounced dead, due to his injuries.

Louisiana State Police say alcohol use is suspected. Charges are pending at this time.
