DPS trooper shoots man during confrontation

CASS COUNTY, TX - (KSLA) – A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper shot and wounded a man Wednesday evening during some type of confrontation.

The shooting happened about 8 p.m. Wednesday night along Highway 59 between Linden and Atlanta, TX.

Authorities say the trooper came upon a car accident and stopped to see what happened. At some point the trooper got into a confrontation with Jessie Lansdale of Linden, TX, leading to trooper to shoot and wound Lansdale.

Lansdale's condition is unknown at this time. Authorities are not releasing the name of the trooper involved, only saying he's on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

On 4-28-10, approximately 7:45 pm, Jesse Alton Lansdale, W/M, 27 of Linden was shot by a Texas Department Public Safety Trooper who is stationed in Cass County.

The shooting occurred north of Linden near the rest area on US 59.

Lansdale driving south bound, had been driving a 2002 4-door Chevrolet when he drove his vehicle across the center median, across the north bound lanes, and down into the east side embankment of US 59.

DPS Trooper had just witnessed Lansdale drive off the roadway, immediately stopped to check on the driver's welfare, when soon after an incident occurred that led to the shooting.

Lansdale was airlifted to ETMC in Tyler.  At this time, Lansdale is in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at ETMC Tyler.

The DPS Trooper involved was not injured in the incident.

This is an ongoing investigation, being investigated by Ranger Womack of Texarkana.
