Ruston officers arrest man for hitting child with truck

News release from the Ruston Police Department:

On Sunday, April 25, 2010, Ruston Police Officers responded to Clinton Circle in reference to a vehicle accident in which a child had been run over. A five year old black male child had apparently been riding a bicycle when he was backed over by a pickup truck driven by 31 year old Ruston resident Sereco Andrews.

Andrews was stopped by Ruston Police Officers a few blocks from the scene of the accident. Andrews reportedly had transported the child and his parents to the emergency room at Northern Louisiana Medical Center before he was stopped by officers.

According to statements by Andrews, he had been leaving a residence on Clinton Circle and when backing up, did not see the small child on a bicycle and struck the child. The child was airlifted to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport in critical condition.

The incident is still under investigation by Ruston Police Department accident investigators.

Andrews was arrested on the charge of Negligent Injuring and transported to the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for booking.

As of Monday 4-26-2010, the child was still in critical condition at LSU Medical Center.
