METAITRIE, La. (AP) - Metairie Park Country Day standout Matt
Derenbecker says he intends to play college basketball for LSU.
The 6-foot-7 forward, who was named the 2009 Gatorade Player of
the Year in Louisiana, says he gave an early verbal commitment to
LSU head coach Trent Johnson on Thursday for the 2010-11 season.
Derenbecker says he also was recruited by Stanford, Virginia and
Georgia Tech. He says he prefers to stay closer to home and
stressed that he had confidence in the direction Johnson is taking
LSU's basketball program.
