OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - In 1982, three young friends from South Mississippi made a version of their favorite movie "Raiders of the Lost Ark." It took Eric Zala, Chris Strompolos and Jayson Lamb seven years to finish the project.

"When it premiered in 1989, we thought it was over," Zala said.

The adaptation of the blockbuster Indiana Jones movie was pretty much forgotten until film maker Eli Roth discovered it in 2003.

"He passed it on to Steven Spielberg and it became a cult hit," Zala said.

The movie has been shown around the world and was screened in London last month. Paramount Pictures is even considering making a movie about this incredible journey.

"It's surreal, unexpected and wonderful," Zala said.

Today, Eric Zala is Executive Director of the Mary C. O'Keefe Cultural Center in Ocean Springs. He's trying to arrange a showing in the center's theater sometime this summer.
