We may now know what killed cows in Caddo Parish

Posted: Updated:

CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) -  Authorities are making progress in their investigation into the deaths of nearly two dozen cows in Caddo Parish. Potassium chloride is suspected as the likely culprit.

The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality tells us that tests have confirmed elevated levels of the substance in the soil from the pasture where the cattle collapsed last week.

Investigators are still waiting on more conclusive test results.

Potassium chloride is used in water as a "completion fluid" in drilling operations.

Schlumberger is the completion contractor for the Chesapeake well.
