DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - It's been a month since Hurricane Gustav tore though Louisiana and sent trees through many families' homes.

While much of the evidence is getting hauled away, the Pepper family in Denham Springs is still living the storm nightmares every day.

Besides the tree through their roof, they now have mold growing, wet insulation, and cracked floors. Eva Pepper and her family do not have insurance and she and her mother live on disability because of a pulmonary disease.

Lately, they've been living in a tent just outside their house. "After four or five days, camping is over. It's time you want to get back home, back in own bed, but you don't have bed to get back to," she says.

FEMA gave Pepper and her family about $5,000 to cover lost furniture, clothes, and a temporary place to stay. As for those home repairs, families can get additional money by filling out the necessary paper-work.
