MONROE, La. (AP) - Plans for a RiverMarket along the Ouachita River in downtown Monroe are inching closer to reality.
The Monroe Planning Commission approved a request this week to rezone about 61.2 acres to a newly created RF-Riverfront District.
The News-Star reports the matter now has to go before the Monroe City Council.
The newly created riverfront zoning classification will allow Monroe's Downtown Economic Development District to develop the riverfront as well as downtown Monroe.
The proposed RiverMarket will feature kiosks and be constructed where the river walk is near the Ouachita Parish Courthouse.
