This is a letter from Michelle Davison, Asst. Director of the NW LA Chapter of the Red Cross, thanking all the KSLA News 12 viewers who supported the organization during our recent fund drive. We also want to thank our viewers for giving to the Red Cross, which ultimately helps those hit hardest by the recent storms and floods.
The Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross, all of its staff, volunteers and Board of Directors would like to extend a HUGE thank you to KSLA, the staff and most of all the viewers for their support during the American Red Cross Local Flood and Tornado Relief Fund Drive. As of today, a total of $4,457.16 had been raised by this drive.
To date, the Red Cross has served more than 11,000 meals, 40,000 snacks and given out another 40,000 bottles of water. Most of this has been for emergency workers as they try to protect residents from rising waters or levee breaches. The Red Cross anticipates that the feeding operation will run through this Friday. Red Cross is also working with families right now that have been affected by the flooding, two tornadoes and the fire that destroyed six townhouses. There are still a number of areas (south Caddo, Lake Bistineau, etc.) that remain inaccessible, but Red Cross will continue this relief operation until finished working with these families. Four Emergency Response Vehicles worked the feeding areas and affected neighborhoods since the disaster occurred – two local and one each brought in from Alexandria and Monroe. More than 100 volunteers have given time to help during this disaster.
All of Red Cross disaster assistance is free to the clients. And, Red Cross does not receive government funding, so it relies on the generosity of the American public for support of disaster relief operations, such as this one. Thank you again to KSLA and all of your viewers for your support. It makes a world of difference!
Michelle Davison,
Northwest Louisiana Chapter of the American Red Cross
