Debate over using Louisiana's rainy day fund continues
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards wants to withdraw $119 million from the state's rainy day fund to help cover a shortfall of more than $304 million. He says his plan would avoid cuts to K-12 and higher education budget. An alternative being put forth is House Bill 3, which would withdraw only $74 million from the rainy day fund and includes a $6.2 million cut to higher education, a $7.5 million cut to K-12 and a cut of more than $28 million to the state health department.
