Take One: It’s time for a game Monday was the first time all camp, I felt like the familiarity of practicing against each other really showed. The defense played great once again, but I just couldn’t shake the feeling that a lot of it had to do with the fact that they easily recognized what was coming. We’ve reached that point in camp where it’s time to hit someone else and get under the lights of a game to gain a true evaluation for where this team is. Take...

Take One: Competitive Practice I really enjoyed Saturday’s practice. At times when you get to this point of camp the grind and monotony of hitting the same players everyday can lead to lethargy. It hasn’t really happened with the Saints all that much. I can only think of one practice so far that lacked energy. Today, the team did red zone and two-minute which are two pretty intense installs. Both sides made big plays and judging by the reaction of those plays, it was eas...More >>

As expected the first eight practices of camp have brought some changes to my roster projection. Here’s how I see things at this point in camp. Quarterback (3) Drew Brees Tom Savage Taysom Hill Though Hill has had a few solid practices, Savage has been a bit more consistent in executing the offense. Take One: Modest Practice It terms of overall energy, I’d have to call practice #7 the lowest of camp. Perhaps it was the type of things they were working on, or maybe it’s because the freshness of camp has worn off and it’s starting to feel like a grind. Pass rusher has  been called the Saints biggest need this offseason. Our No. 7 free agent may be the best available on the market, mainly because the great ones don't get to free agency. His name is Trent Murphy, who enjoyed a breakout season in Washington in 2016 with nine sacks. He followed that up with one his worst in 2017. He was suspended four games for testing positive for PED's, tore his ACL, and never played a down. All of these could be reasons to stay away from Murp...More >>

1st Round TE Dallas Goedert, South Dakota St. I went back and forth with two other linebackers and a cornerback in this slot. But in the end, I circled back around to my original selection of Goedert. Tight end is one of the few positions on the Saints roster where a rookie can step and be a major contributor. It should have been epic. The feeling post game should have been euphoria. That’s what’s supposed to happen when Drew Brees leads the Saints back from a 17-point second half hole. Or when he gets the ball with 129 left, down two and calmly leads them 50 yards on 11 plays to set up the game winning field goal.

The Saints have hit the halfway mark of the preseason, and the final 53 man roster is getting clearer. Here's my view at this point in time.  QB (2) Drew Brees Chase Daniel There is no reason for the Saints to keep more than two quarterbacks. It’s obvious who those quarterbacks should be. RB (4) Mark Ingram Adrian Peterson Alvin Kamara Daniel Lasco No change here. FB (1) John Kuhn Once again, easy call. WR (5)  Willie Snead Michael Thomas Ted G...More >>
