March for Meals marched on through bad weather

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - A little bad weather didn't stop this year's March for Meals festivities. They just moved the fun inside the Shreveport Municipal Auditorium.

The event is held every year to draw attention to the meals on wheels program that feeds more than a thousand local seniors every single day.

A number of elected officials were on hand including Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover. The Byrd High School marching band also participated in the event.

Mary Alice Roundtree with the Caddo Council on Aging says the program is more than just about serving meals.

"They're just so much more than the meal itself," says Roundtree. "It's the smiles on their faces. It's the human touch. Just think if we were at home all day long and nobody came to see us, how lonely we would be."

During this month's March for Meals campaign. The Caddo Council on Aging hopes to raise $150,000 for meals on wheels.

Roundtree says so far they've raised $16,000.
