CADDO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - The quick actions of an 18-wheeler driver saved the life of a fellow trucker after a fiery crash in Caddo Parish Friday morning.
Caddo deputies say about 7:30 am, a trio of trucks were heading north on Highway 71. When they got just outside of Belcher, the middle truck ran off the road, ran into a culvert, and burst into flames.
Deputies say the driver who was in the truck at the rear of the convoy immediately stopped his rig and grabbed his fire extinguisher. He used it to break a window out of the burning truck, then pulled the injured truck driver to safety.
Deputies say that action saved the driver of the crashed truck.
The 36-year-old driver of the wrecked truck was taken to LSU Hospital for crash injuries and burns. Deputies said the injuries did not appear to be life threatening.
Volunteers from Caddo Fire District Seven responded to the crash.
Deputies so far do not know why the truck driver went off the road.
All three trucks were going to Gilliam carrying pipes used in drilling natural gas wells.
