SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) - Former Caddo Parish District Attorney Paul Carmouche and Minden Doctor John Fleming have advanced to the runoff election for Louisiana's 4th Congressional District.
Carmouche won the Democratic Party Primary runoff over challenger Attorney Willie Banks with 62 percent of the vote in complete but unofficial results.
The republican runoff race between Fleming and Businessman Chris Gorman was filled with negative advertising and accusations of false claims against each other. Fleming topped Gorman with 56 percent of the vote.
While the federal elections have ended for most of the country, Carmouche and Gorman have another month of campaigning ahead of them. The general election runoff for the 4th Congressional District is December 6th. Also on the ballot for that race - independent candidates Chester Kelley of Shreveport and Gerard J. Bowen of Bossier City. That race will not have a runoff. The majority vote-getter wins.
The candidates are vying for the seat being vacated by long-time Congressional Representative Jim McCrery, who decided to retire.
