Smelly Mess Cleared from I-30, Road Reopened

Posted: Updated:

Police in Texarkana, AR, say crews have finished cleaning up a smelly mess on Interstate 30.
They had been re-routing traffic ever since about 3:30 a. m. Tuesday when a truck overturned and spilled chicken parts all over the east side of the highway near mile marker 7.
Witnesses told police they saw the truck suddenly veer toward the median, and then attempt to correct itself, just before it rolled onto its side.
It was carrying a load of more than 40,000 pounds of heads, feet and other body parts from dead chickens at the time.
The spill happened close to the highway exit, so it affected only a small portion of that roadway.
Police directed traffic off I-30 just before the spill area and then guided it back onto the highway just beyond the site.
They reopened the roadway some time before 10:30 a. m.
Police say the truck driver suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
